Welcome to Of Light & Time ("we," "us," "our"). By placing an order or using our services, you agree to these Terms of Service. Please read them carefully.
1. The service we provide
Of Light & Time offers digital photo restoration and colorization services. We use a combination of AI-assisted tools and manual editing to restore, repair, and enhance the photographs you submit.
2. Your photos and ownership
You retain full ownership of any photographs you submit to us. By submitting a photo, you confirm that you have the legal right to do so. We claim no ownership over your originals or our restored versions — both are yours.
We will never use, share, sell, or publish your photos without your explicit written permission.
3. AI tools and restoration process
Our restoration process uses a combination of advanced AI image tools (including generative models such as those by OpenAI and Google) and manual editing by our artists in professional photo-editing software. This hybrid approach allows us to recover detail and quality that would be impossible with either method alone.
Please be aware of the following:
- Interpretation of damaged areas: When restoring torn, missing, or severely damaged portions of a photograph, our process necessarily involves interpretation and reconstruction of likely original content. While we strive for historical and visual accuracy, some details in heavily damaged areas may be artistic approximations rather than exact reproductions.
- Contests and publications: If you intend to submit your restored photograph to a photography contest, journalistic publication, archival institution, or similar venue, please verify their rules regarding AI-assisted or AI-enhanced images before submitting. Many such venues now have specific disclosure requirements or restrictions on AI-modified images, and policies vary widely.
- Commercial and licensing use: If you intend to use the restored image for commercial purposes (advertising, merchandise, NFTs, stock licensing, etc.), please note that the legal treatment of AI-assisted images is still evolving in many jurisdictions. We recommend consulting appropriate legal advice for high-value commercial use.
- Historical accuracy: Colorization, in particular, involves educated estimation of original colors based on the era, materials, and context. We aim for plausible, era-appropriate colors but cannot guarantee they match the exact colors of the original scene.
We will disclose our process honestly to any party who asks. By placing an order, you acknowledge and accept these characteristics of AI-assisted restoration.
4. Delivery
Standard delivery is 24–48 hours after we receive your photo file(s) and any necessary instructions. Rush delivery (12–24 hours) is available as an add-on. Delivery times are best-effort estimates and may occasionally extend during high-volume periods; we will communicate any delays promptly.
5. Revisions
Each package includes the following revisions:
- Single Photo: 1 free revision
- Family Bundle (5): 2 revisions per photo
- Heritage Pack (10): unlimited revisions
Revisions must be requested within 14 days of original delivery.
6. Refund policy
We stand behind our work with a 100% satisfaction guarantee:
- If you are not satisfied with the initial result, request a revision and we will rework it.
- If you are still not satisfied after revisions, contact us within 14 days of delivery and we will refund your order in full, no questions asked.
- Refunds will be processed via the original payment method (PayPal) within 5–10 business days.
Refunds are not available for orders where the customer has not provided source files within 30 days of payment.
7. Payment
We currently accept payments through PayPal only. PayPal supports all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover) and does not require the customer to have a PayPal account. All transactions are processed in USD.
8. Customer responsibilities
To deliver the best possible result, please:
- Provide the highest-quality scan or photograph of the original you can.
- Confirm the photo is at least 1500 pixels on the longer edge when possible.
- Communicate any specific preferences, important details, or sensitivities clearly when ordering.
9. Limitations
While we work hard to restore every photo to the best possible quality, some photos with extreme damage, very low resolution, or missing critical detail may have inherent limitations on how much they can be restored. We will let you know if we believe a photo is beyond restoration before beginning work.
10. Liability
Our total liability for any claim related to our services is limited to the amount you paid for the specific order in question. We are not liable for any indirect, consequential, or incidental damages.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The most recent version will always be available on this page.
